igus now also offers fully harnessedcables for Single Pair Ethernet technology, especially for use in e-chains.

Single Pair Ethernetis currently one of the biggest trend topics in the field of data communicationin order to be able to communicate with even the smallest sensors. In additionto compact connectors, slim cables are also in demand. For this purpose, igus has developed a highly flexible Single Pair Ethernet cable especially fordynamic use in the energy chain, and now also offers it harnessed as aready-to-connect and tested readycable. To further advance the research of the technology, igus joinedthe SPE Industrial Partner Network in 2019 and has now received the"PIONEER Member" award.

SinglePair Ethernet - also known as SPE for short - has been on everyone's lips since2019. A lot of hope lies in the new compact data technology, which the industrynow wants to harness in order to enable Ethernet-based communication with eventhe smallest sensors or cameras. One of two networks driving SPE research isthe SPE Industrial Partner Network. Together with six other members, connectorspecialist Harting founded the network in 2019. Shortly afterwards, igus joinedas a partner for the dynamic use of cables. The motion plastics specialist hasnow received the Pioneer Member Award for this collaboration. "We havebeen working with Harting on various projects for several years. So we also gotinvolved quite early in the development of a Single Pair Ethernet cable that isspecially designed for use in the energy chain and is compatible with theHarting T1 connector", says Andreas Muckes, Head of Product Management chainflexcables at igus GmbH. "We are looking forward to advancing the technologytogether with many renowned companies and implementing new applicationstogether in the near future." igus presented the first highly flexiblecable for Single Pair Ethernet at SPS 2019.

SPEcable ready to connect immediately

Thenew cable is precisely designed for the T1 connector interface. The combinationof cable and connector is extremely robust: igus uses a highlyabrasion-resistant and notch-resistant PUR jacket, and the connector has toughmetal latches with a PCB socket. Reducing the size of the cable and connectorcreates additional space in the e-chain and in the connecting area of thecontrol system. The oil-resistant and flame-retardantCFBUS.PUR.042 has been extensively tested in the 3,800 square metre igus testlaboratory. As with all more than 1,300 chainflex cables, the user alsoreceives a guarantee of up to 36 months for the Single Pair Ethernet cable. Sothat customers do not have to buy and harness connectors and cables separately, the chainflex cable is not only available as sold by the metre, but also as a ready-to-connect andtested readycable in the igus online shop. In the meantime, there are otherconnector options for SPE on the market, which should enable various customerrequirements. "Therefore, we also test our SPE cable with other connectorsin order to be able to offer the customer the optimal solution for theirrequirements", explains Andreas Muckes.
